TALES OF AN AMERICAN SUMMER by Ben Bernschneider

“Tales of an American Summer” marked the beginning of the publication history of former advertising photographer Ben Bernschneider from Hamburg, Germany. After a first small test run with his debut work “Diamondtimes”, he successfully collected the money for the production of “Tales of an American Summer” via a crowdfunding campaign.

TALES OF AN AMERICAN SUMMER, 2015

“Still hungover, I have a panic attack on board and this girl I know from some movie or music video is giving Valium to everyone. We all take one and after we’ve had a few gin shots and taken a few lines, we all sing TINY DANCER so loud that I almost have a hearing loss. And as the private jet falls out of the sky, through the clouds, my eyes turn back into my head and I pleasantly pass out.”

A DIARY, A PHOTOBOOK, A NOVEL

Where the illustrated diary ends and the taciturn novel begins is not quite clear. Only where it takes place is certain: in an American summer that takes the viewer away to the heat of California and doesn’t let go even on a night under palm trees.
